Australia and Japans Relationship since World War II Essay -- essays
Since the signing of the 1951 peace treaty between Australia and Japan, the two countries have rapidly built a productive relationship. Many factors and events have contributed to the development of this partnership. The ANZUS treaty was the turning point in the Austral-Japanese relationship. It assured Australia protection against Japan and provided security in the Asia-Pacific region. Trade and cultural exchange also played a significant role in shaping Australiaââ¬â¢s relationship with Japan. Growth of trade was a contributor to the sense of a mutual interest between the two countries. The cultural exchange often helped to recognise and accept the differences between Australia and Japan. The partnership between Australia and Japan instigated with the signing of ANZUS treaty in 1951. ANZUS joined the nations of Australia, New Zealand and the United States of America in a defence security pact for the Pacific region. It chiefly resulted from the fear of communism by Western nations. However, from Australiaââ¬â¢s point of view at the time, ANZUS also offered protection against a potential threat from Japan. Australia was concerned that Japan would try to conquer the Pacific region again after suffering defeat in the Second World War. Hanson.M (2001:28) sates that shortly after the end of World War Two, Australia wanted the Japanese government turned into a democracy. She even wanted a peace treaty that punished those leaders responsible for Japanââ¬â¢s aggression, broke the great industrious complexes of Japanââ¬â¢s economy, and left Japan disarmed. The ANZUS treaty however, created a connection between Australia and Japan on easier terms. With United States ba cking Australia, it was now safe to interact with Japan. Although ANZUS did not guarantee direct military support from United States, it still provided consultation in an event of attack on any of the three countries. Wolferen.K (1989:54) notes that security co-operation has been growing between Australia and Japan throughout the 1990ââ¬â¢s. Communist China was the major concern for the two nations. Japan and Australia had the same negative views about communism, which led to them sharing a common purpose in countering the communists within that region. After Sir John McEwen, the former Minister for Trade, signed the Australia-Japan Commerce Agreement in 1957, the trading aspect between the two nations has developed ... ...dying Japanese at tertiary level alone. Research relating to Japan is carried out at about thirty-seven universities in Australia. The range of research has developed to include not only the humanities, but also practical and business-related fields. Also there is a considerable amount of youth exchange between Australia and Japan. Every year Japan accepts about one hundred young Australians as government funded students. All of the above attributes are making a major contribution to the promotion of friendly relations between Australia and Japan. After evaluating the above factors, it is clear that the partnership between Australia and Japan is of significant importance to both countries. With reference to the Centre for Study of Australian-Asian Relations (1997:152) the future prosperity of Australia will to an increasing extent, be dependent on that of her neighbours in the Asia-Pacific area. Currently the Australia-Japan relationship could be described as ââ¬Å"comfortable and relaxedâ⬠. However both Australia and Japan need to be alert to the changing environment and must ensure that the right frameworks and policy settings are in place in order for the two countries to prosper.

Various Laboratory Tests on Cement
VARIOUS LAB TEST ON CEMENT: Checking of materials is an essential part of civil engineering as the life of structure is dependent on the quality of material used. Following are the tests to be conducted to judge the quality of cement. 1. Fineness 2. Soundness 3. Consistency 4. Initial and Final Setting Time of Cement FINENESS OF CEMENT: We need to determine the fineness of cement by dry sieving as per IS: 4031 (Part 1) ââ¬â 1996. The principle of this is that we determine the proportion of cement whose grain size is larger than specified mesh size. Apparatus: The apparatus used are ) 75à µm IS Sieve ii) Balance capable of weighing 10g to the nearest 10mg iii) A nylon or pure bristle brush, preferably with 25 to 40mm iv) bristle, for cleaning the sieve Figure No. Sieve No. 200 Procedure to determine fineness of cement: i) Weigh approximately 10g of cement to the nearest 0. 01g and place it on the sieve. ii) Agitate the sieve by swirling, planetary and linear movements, until no m ore fine material passes through it. iii) Weigh the residue and express its mass as a percentage R1,of the quantity first placed on the sieve to the nearest 0. 1 percent. v) Gently brush all the fine material off the base of the sieve. v) Repeat the whole procedure using a fresh 10g sample to obtain R2. Then calculate R as the mean of R1 and R2 as a percentage, expressed to the nearest 0. 1 percent. When the results differ by more than 1 percent absolute, carry out a third sieving and calculate the mean of the three values. Reporting of Results: Report the value of R, to the nearest 0. 1 percent, as the residue on the 90à µm sieve. Test To Check Soundness Of Cement: SOUNDNESS : Soundness of cement is determined by Le-Chatelier method as per IS: 4031 (Part 3) ââ¬â 1988.Apparatus ââ¬â The apparatus for conducting the Le-Chatelier test should conform to IS: 5514 ââ¬â 1969 Balance, whose permissible variation at a load of 1000g should be +1. 0g and Water bath. Procedure to determine soundness of cement i) Place the mould on a glass sheet and fill it with the cement paste formed by gauging cement with 0. 78 times the water required to give a paste of standard consistency. ii) Cover the mould with another piece of glass sheet, place a small weight on this covering glass sheet and immediately submerge the whole assembly in water at a temperature of 27 à ± 2oC and keep it there for 24hrs. ii) Measure the distance separating the indicator points to the nearest 0. 5mm (say d1 ). iv) Submerge the mould again in water at the temperature prescribed above. Bring the water to boiling point in 25 to 30 minutes and keep it boiling for 3hrs. v) Remove the mould from the water, allow it to cool and measure the distance between the indicator points (say d2 ). vi) (d2 ââ¬â d1 ) represents the expansion of cement. Test To Check Consistency Of Cement : CONSISTENCY : The basic aim is to find out the water content required to produce a cement paste of standard consis tency as specified by the IS: 4031 (Part 4) ââ¬â 1988.The principle is that standard consistency of cement is that consistency at which the Vicat plunger penetrates to a point 5-7mm from the bottom of Vicat mould. Apparatus ââ¬â Vicat apparatus conforming to IS: 5513 ââ¬â 1976, Balance, whose permissible variation at a load of 1000g should be +1. 0g, Gauging trowel conforming to IS: 10086 ââ¬â 1982. Procedure to determine consistency of cement i) Weigh approximately 400g of cement and mix it with a weighed quantity of water. The time of gauging should be between 3 to 5 minutes. ii) Fill the Vicat mould with paste and level it with a trowel. ii) Lower the plunger gently till it touches the cement surface. iv) Release the plunger allowing it to sink into the paste. v) Note the reading on the gauge. vi) Repeat the above procedure taking fresh samples of cement and different quantities of water until the reading on the gauge is 5 to 7mm. Reporting of Results Express the amount of water as a percentage of the weight of dry cement to the first place of decimal. Test To Check Initial And Final Setting Time Of Cement : INITIAL AND FINAL SETTING TIME : We need to calculate the initial and final setting time as per IS: 4031 (Part 5) ââ¬â 1988.To do so we need Vicat apparatus conforming to IS: 5513 ââ¬â 1976, Balance, whose permissible variation at a load of 1000g should be +1. 0g, Gauging trowel conforming to IS: 10086 ââ¬â 1982. Procedure to determine initial and final setting time of cement : i) Prepare a cement paste by gauging the cement with 0. 85 times the water required to give a paste of standard consistency. ii) Start a stop-watch, the moment water is added to the cement. iii) Fill the Vicat mould completely with the cement paste gauged as above, the mould resting on a non-porous plate and smooth off the surface of the paste making it level with the top of the mould. The cement block thus prepared in the mould is the test block. A)à INITIAL SETTING TIME : Place the test block under the rod bearing the needle. Lower the needle gently in order to make contact with the surface of the cement paste and release quickly, allowing it to penetrate the test block. Repeat the procedure till the needle fails to pierce the test block to a point 5. 0 à ± 0. 5mm measured from the bottom of the mould. The time period elapsing between the time, water is added to the cement and the time, the needle fails to pierce the test block by 5. 0 à ± 0. mm measured from the bottom of the mould, is the initial setting time. B)à FINAL SETTING TIME : Replace the above needle by the one with an annular attachment. The cement should be considered as finally set when, upon applying the needle gently to the surface of the test block, the needle makes an impression therein, while the attachment fails to do so. The period elapsing between the time, water is added to the cement and the time, the needle makes an impression on the surface of the test block, while the attachment fails to do so, is the final setting time.

One of the U.S. goals is to stop the growth of terrorism in the war torn Syria. It is stated that ââ¬Å"Ungoverned territory provides space for terrorist groups to operate, and chaos provides a recruitment pool of disenfranchised, angry young menâ⬠(Issa para 8). The Debate For Comprehensive Sex Education - 1212 Words
The Debate for Comprehensive Sex Education Across the United States of America there is wide spread support for abstinence-only education. A majority of states require that abstinence-only education be the only form of sexual health education provided, or requires that abstinence be stressed above other forms of sexual education. These highly stressed abstinence-only programs are under fire as research comes out against the efficiency of these programs, and as new forms of sexual health education appear. These new programs teach that abstinence is the best method for avoiding sexually transmitted diseases and unintended pregnancy, but also teaches about using contraceptives to reduce the risks of contracting sexually transmitted diseases, and/or the Human Immunodeficiency Virus. These programs also teach interpersonal skills to allow students to explore their inner selves. Not surprisingly, it is comprehensive sex education programs which help adolescents remain healthy and avoid negative sexual health outcomes. Since the col onial times of the United States of America, religious institutions have played a major role in providing a variety of social services to the masses. How to Encourage More People to Donate Their Organs Free Essays
1) Many of the people who receive organs have self-damaged their own organs such as by drug use or other irresponsible behaviors (eating patterns, sexual activity patterns, etc. ). There are measures taken by the medical community to ensure that theyââ¬â¢re not engaged in these behaviors while theyââ¬â¢re waiting for an organ but that doesnââ¬â¢t change the history of the behaviors or how the damage was done. We will write a custom essay sample on How to Encourage More People to Donate Their Organs or any similar topic only for you Order Now 2) Most of the people will have shortened lifespans anyway even if they receive the organ. ) Most of the people who receive organs will experience an array of complications which will reduce their quality of life and impose ongoing, often lifelong, financial costs. 4) The immediate and ongoing costs of transplanting organs is very high and that cost can often be spent better in other ways such as by improving health education and prevention, drug addiction treatment, neonatal care, nutrition, genetic research, artificial tissue research, etc. 5) Because of the high costs involved, organ transplants are sometimes received via a black market in which you have the very rich benefiting and the very poor selling their organs. This discrepancy in access would, to some extent, remain even if everyone were an organ donor. 6) Some people are afraid that less than full efforts might be made to resuscitate them if they are a known organ donor. For example, theyââ¬â¢re involved in an accident and then after brief efforts are made to resuscitate them they are left to die and their organs harvested even though if someone had tried a little harder theyââ¬â¢d be alive. Although this fear is basically unfounded at least in the majority of the developed world, it is not entirely an unreasonable fear and it would have some legitimacy in some parts of the world. ) Many people regard the body as sacred in such a way that we can never be morally obligated to part with any part of it or to receive any part of anothers. In fact some people strengthen this view from ââ¬Å"not obligatedâ⬠to ââ¬Å"obligated to notâ⬠, and there are a range of views in between. This sense of the ââ¬Å"sacrednessâ⬠of the body need not manifest in any specifically religious way but simply as a visceral repugnance at the thought of disrupting ones ordinary bodily organization even after death. However it may manifest in religious ways as well and is why so many cultures have engaged in ritual entombment, mummification and embalming, and frown upon things like grave-robbing, cremation, etc. The intuition is, more or less, that when you violate the body, even in death, you show a disrespect both for the life of the person whose body it was and for life in general by making us all merely potential commodities for one another. This ties in with point 5. The converse of this comes at the beginning rather than the end of life and involves not the action of selling organs but of selling children and of conceiving children specifically for the purpose of harvesting their organs. These things actually do and have happened and, quite reasonably, they repulse many people. 8) The donater is usually unable to exercise any discretion as to who receives the organ or judge their merit to receive it. 9) The donater is usually totally unaware of the recipient and feels no obligation to them. This lack of felt obligation is, of course, reciprocated. 0) Although, just as with vaccination programs, the costs of donation could be lowered by making it mandatory, this is very unlikely to happen (see 7) and, if it did happen, would be very likely to be abused (see 5). Together these all provide formidable reasons to not donate. Although there may remain some cases to which some of the arguments donââ¬â¢t equally apply, such as cornea transplants and skin grafts and transplants for the young and otherwise healthy and donations to those you know, the arguments against many forms of donation and many cases thereof are still weightier than you might think. The products like mobile phones and digital cameras broke the record of the prices and the prices of product decreased, on the other hand, the rise in the prices of products like television, laptops, desktops, monitor, and printers (IANS, 2017). The local retailers get affected by the changes in the prices. The Indian electronics industry is expected to get recover during the forecasted period. Findings The Analysis of the market shows that the Amazon is a best online portal that is frequently used by the Indian customers. Explanation of the SWOT analysis (Source: Pandit, and Poojari, 2014) Strength The Amazon company is the leading online retailer in the world along with it is the well-known and leading retailer in India. The company has different product categories such as Electronics, toys, games, home and kitchen, software and many others. In order to maintain the competitive advantage, the company has created several strategies, out of which the cost leadership strategy helps the company to form alliances with the different companies who can offer the superior customer services (Pandit, and Poojari, 2014). The customers of the Indian market are aware of the brand and they have trust in a company, this is the reason they prefer Amazon over other brands. The delivery network of the company is efficient because the company has created a deep and the structured distribution network in order to make the product available at the remote locations (Khan, et.al, 2016). At certain geographic areas in India, the company provides the free delivery facility to the customers. Weakness The weakness of the company is that their margins are decreasing gradually. The reason behind the decrease in the margins of the company is that the company is expending the huge amount in extensive delivery network and price wars. In India, the company faced the loss of $359 crs in the year 2013-2014. In developing nations the company is struggling to make profit similarly in India the company is struggling to make the business profitable because a failure of this increases the debt of the company (Gupta, 2015). Opportunities The Amazon company is having the opportunity to expand the products in the Indian market for that the company needs to come with the innovative idea so that the company will be able to grab the attention of the customers and to make the profit out of it. The Indian market is one of the developing markets where the company should bring the innovative product (Kryvinska, Bauer, Strauss, and Gregus, 2014). The company can expand more and more outlets in India so that they can lead the market. Threats The entry barriers of the industry are decreasing, in the Indian market, there is a low entry of the company which leads to the competition in the existing companies. The less number of companies will be there in the market, the more competition will be there in the market and every company wants to become the leading company. Indian market consists of Snapdeal and Flipkart who are the e-commerce companies and these companies are giving tough competition to the Amazon company (Seth, 2016). The age group that the company mainly target consists of the 18+ both male and females. The company provide the wide range of the products that provide the convenience to the buyers, as customer can buy different product from single portal they dont have to switch, so the company is looking to target the people so the people who are looking to buy products collectively are the primary target of company (Smith, Rupp, and Offodile, 2017). The customer believes that the prices kept by the company are quite competitive this behavior of customers towards the Amazon is beneficial for the company. This software provides the opportunity to the customers to select the merchant and the price they want to pay for the product. They can buy the product from the online auction according to their demand. The Indian customers have to believe that they are good at the negotiation and this interest attracts the customers towards the online auction facility.
